  • (posted 12/15/10) JoAnn Allison, the wife of our classmate Malcolm Allison, died December 11, 2010 in Brentwood, NH after what appears to be a long fight with cancer. Click here for the obituary.
  • (posted 11/30/10) Jean S. Cione, a member of our class faculty, has died November 22, 2010 at the age of 82. She has a VERY interesting obituary as she has been recognized with so many honors and was known in Rockford as a pitcher for the famous Rockford Peaches baseball team. We new her as a Physical Ed Teacher at West in 1959.

    Also the Mother of our classmate Janice (Brown) Rosella of York, PA died November 21, 2010 at the age of 96. For more details, see her obituary.
  • (posted 11/18/10) An article appeared in the RRstar today commemorating the birthday of the late Jim Davis. Today is also the birthday of Pete Zammuto and Jean (Carlson) Hembrough. Happy Birthday!!!

  • (posted 11/11/10) If you are wondering what classmate Diane (Labowitz) Portnoff has been doing lately, you may be quite surprised. It seems she has found new love in her life both with a man and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle! To understand the whole story read the article "love At First Bike" that appeared this summer in an online motorcycle magazine.

  • (posted 11/1/10) The mother of our classmate Henrietta Dotson-Williams will be 100 November 2, 2010. Her name is Woodsy Perteete and she celebrated the event with a party at Sam's Ristorante - click on the RRstar article for more information. Henrietta, who attended our mini-reunion this year, is a former Winnebago County Board member and current Rockford Fire and Police Commissioner.




  • (posted 10/04/10) We had a record turnout at the Mini-reunion September 11, 2010 including some classmates that had not been heard from for many years. Pete Zammuto organized the event which included a picnic at Sinnissippi Park followed by a dinner at Lino's Restaurant. Judy (Provasi) VanHeesch won the "guess the groups who sang the songs from the fifties" contest but admitted afterward that she had some help from a cell phone information number. The raffle prizes were won by Jan (Johnson) Potter, Janice (Liles) Peterson, and Jim Harter. Jan (Giese) Roland came the farthest - Richmond, TX. Photos were taken by Sue (Jarrett) Martinetti and Julie (Peeples) Thompson and can be viewed in the Photo Gallery Section.

  • (posted 8/22/10) WEST HIGH 70TH BIRTHDAY PARTY was a special celebration held at the high school and open to the public. It was an opportunity to "walk down memory lane" and remember the past with tours of the Cafeteria, Memorabilia Room, Memorial Garden, Auditorium, and Gym. A program was presented by Architect Gary Anderson with slides explaining the various design features of the building. You can read a special story created by Ray Paul of the Class of 1953 that brings back many memories of the days since the school was built in 1940.

  • (posted 8/17/10 and 8/20/10) Another classmate, Jack Mund, has passed away!
    Jack E. Mund, who is married to our classmate Bonnie Alberts, has died after a long illness. See his obituary for more information. Over the last few years, Jack developed an advanced stage of dementia to the point where his mind could no longer function normally and he lost connection with the loved ones around him. Please help with emotional support for Bonnie as she copes with this family tragedy and rebuilds her life in the future.
  • (posted 8/16/10 and 8/18/10) We are sorry to hear of the passing of our classmate Robert C. Swanson Jr. on August 11, 2010 as he lost his fight with cancer. He attended Westview School, Roosevelt Junior High, and was on the West High 1959 Commencement list. His family has requested a Private Service at a later date. We now have his obituary plus a biography he wrote for the 40th Reunion Yearbook.

Jerry was a frequent contributor to the Class Yahoo Groups Chatroom and an avid railroad train hobbyist. Click on the underlined link for the full obituary.
