Roberta Ann Stanfel Passes on at 74

(posted 6/30/16)
ROCKFORD, IL — Roberta Ann (Stanfel) Schnorr died June 28, 2016.

Roberta grew up in Rockford attending Roosevelt and graduating West in 1959. She was married to James Schnorr for 43 years who died at 62 on the same day of the year as Roberta June 28, 2002.

After her husband Jim died, Roberta would visit him at the cemetary often where she met a man there who also came often to visit a loved one, his wife, just a few headstones away. They decided to go for coffee and talk and as fate would have it, they took up together as companions - a relationship that lasted for many years. Roberta and her new friend Thomas Hoey traveled extensively and shared many adventures together until Thomas died February 28, 2016.

Roberta loved music, played the accordian, and taught Organ and Piano for many years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm in Rockford on Saturday July 2, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of service. See her obituary for more information.

Overlooked Classmate Found Us!

(posted 6/27/16)
CHEROKEE, IOWA. Roger C. Anderson, while browsing the internet, managed to find our "Class of 59" website where he noticed several familiar names and faces. Why wasn't he among them? Well, as we discovered, Roger and his family moved to Iowa where he completed his senior year in a small school with a group less than a tenth the size of our senior class.

Roger attended Washington Junor High and then Sophomore and Junior years at West. He definitely identifies with our class and so we are adding him to our database and website bringing the class total to 519.

Roger now lives with his wife Joan in Cheokee a small town of just over 5000 in northwest Iowa. He was in the Navy and worked as a carpenter. It seems he was in an auto accident a while back which keeps him home a lot so he would probably enjoy hearing from some of his previous classmates.

Another "LOST" Classmate has been found

(posted 4/8/16) PALM DESERT, CA — After losing the location of classmate David P. Atwood in 2009, he has been on the "LOST" list - until now! It seems that David and Mary moved from their Glen Ellyn, IL home to Southern California. Their location in Palm Desert was found by our super-sleuth Gordon Hall. The big surprise came when Gordon learned that David and Mary now lived just 1.5 miles from him in Palm Desert! We will likely hear more from both couples in the future.

Portia Ann Kafar has Finally been Found

(posted 3/26/16)
Thanks to some super sleuthing by our own Gordon Hall (aka modern day internet-savvy Sherlock Holmes) we were able to remove Portia Ann Kafar from the "missing list" after all these years since the list began.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that Portia died of cancer August 10, 2002 at the age of 61. She relocated from Rockford to Auburndale, Florida in 1994. Portia was married to Gordon R. Herfel and had a son and two daughters. More details can be found in her obituary.

Jeanie and Bill have attended previous class reunions over the years. The photo at the right is the latest we have from the 55th reunion Friday mixer.

They have been married for over 25 years. The photo at the lower left shows Jeanie at the 50th reunion.

See her obituary for service and condolence information. Also included is an interesting history lesson from her 40th reunion biography explaining how there was a West High School in 1881 that graduated 15 members!
